Fuel and temp gauge go past their high marks as soon as I start excelerateing but when sitting still at idle both gauges are fine

So if its below or above the numbers you said then would that mean my alternator is bad? The alternator is only about 1 year old now. Would I just hook my volt Meyer up to alternator and run the cords into the cab and check it that way? Thank you so very very much!!
