How do I put an ignition switch on a 1990 geo metro ? Also do I need any specific tools to fix the ignition switch? I bought a new ignition switch from china . The car has been just sitting up for two years now . Does the engine/transmission have to the same after switching the ignition out?

Hi, I'm one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Replacing the ignition switch should be straightforward; if you run into trouble, the Geo has a strong fanbase in multiple forums with good information. As for tools, you'll need various sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers, a hammer, and chisels for the security bolts. Here are the simplified steps: 1. Disconnect the battery. 2. Remove the steering column shroud. 3. Locate the ignition switch. 4. Disconnect the wiring harness. 5. Remove the ignition switch. 6. Install the new ignition switch. After the replacement, troubleshoot and check connections if you face any issues. Also, if the car has been sitting for a while, inspect other components like fuel lines, fluids, and tires before putting it back on the road.
