front end shakes bad

ok when i was driving the other day. my car started shaking really bad and i was smelling burning rubber. When I pulled over to check it out, I noticed that the wheel was cantered very badly, like it was about to wobble off the axle, its a front wheel drive, When I jacked it up to inspect, I noticed that the hub assembly was very loose. like i could move it in and out and all around, and the boot assembly was loose from the hub. Now does this mean I just need to replace the wheel hub assembly and the boot? And is it possible to do the work myself if i have the right tools?
