The light is probably due to an "evaporative emission failure". The evap system stores fuel vapor from the fuel tank, in a canister , it gets drawn into the engine under certain conditions when the engine has warmed up and is running. For the system to work correctly the gas cap has to be tight, the tank fuel lines, purge control valve, and other solenoids must all work properly with no leaks. The system often requires a scan tool to open and close valves and or a "smoke machine" to check for leaks.
