I have a leak at the hose that's connected to the water pump..as far I can tell

Hello, sounds like the coolant bypass hose is leaking coolant. This happens because rubber hoses age! Yours are 12 years old. Rubber can dry out in 5 years, let alone 12. I would suggest changing all the hoses under the hood if all else is under budget on repairs. Good luck!
