Sounds like a "vapor lock" situation. Fuel tank ventilation can figure in. On the other hand, fuel pressure can wane when the pump gets super hot -- which is possible due to fuel temperatures. Depending on powertrain - you could have a returnable fuel system, where excess fuel goes back to the tank, and a returnless system where fuel delivered is burned. The returnable system would contribute to excessive fuel tank heat and stress on the pump. It's really hard to know what's going on without performing hands on testing, especially when the problem is active. Seek a local shop near you for guidance.
