Automatic transmission center console gear selector letters don't illuminate

What is your question?

I recently replaced both bulbs within the center column gear selector. I can see light shining from the seems of the center console; however, the gear letters don't illuminate.

How long has your 2002 Ford Taurus had this problem?

I noticed the panel not illuminating about 1 month ago. Just got around to replacing the bulbs.
