is it an easy job to replace the water pump on a 1996 ford taurus?

Not unless you have mechanical experience. One thing is you need to undo the motor mounts and jack up the engine to get the bolts out, if I remember correctly. Actually, for a mechanic, a water pump in a Taurus is not a tough job. For the inexperienced, a driveway repair can be too tough to be worth it.
