Hood Latch

What is your question?

Ok when you first pull the hood release lever in the car it pops the hood, then you have to stick your hand in and push to the side to get the second latch to release. For a year or so now just for no reason that first latch pops. The hood doesn't come up though because of the second part. When you push down on the hood to try and close it will not latch. Anyone know what to do??
