Car will die out of nowhere and has been overheating

What is your question?

My husband was taking the car to work and it decided it was going to stop running and then didn't want to start or acted like it wanted to start but then didn't and on top of it it's been overheating it tries to start but it just isn't able to sometimes

What makes this problem better or worse?

Seems to be worse if it's cold
