What is your question?
Since I bought my truck about a month ago, I've known there is some driveline slack. The place I bought it from supposedly adjusted the lash in the diff but it didn't fix the problem. I believe the slack is about 1/2 an inch to 3/4. I also don't think it is the U joint, but I might need to check again. When I'm driving, coasting and applying throttle, the driveshaft clunks into place. It's not a major action, but you can feel and slightly hear it, the same thing happens if I am on the gas and let off. This is with normal driving, if I really baby it with the throttle inputs, it will be less prominent, but if I were to floor it from a coast, it would make you cringe. Edit: I just checked and the slack is about 1/4 of an inch, so I believe that's normal, it's definitely better than before the lash was changed. The U joint seems good, it doesn't have slack, so now I am confused lol.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Lighter throttle inputs make it better, any sudden inputs whether gentle or aggressive will make it clunk.
How long has your 2011 Ford Ranger had this problem?
Since I bought it

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. In my experience with Ford drivelines on vehicles like yours, it would be extraordinarily unusual to have some sort of driveline slack in the rear differential. Sure, you could have a worn universal joint, but even this is somewhat unusual. I would be focused on engine or transmission mount issues if anything at all. A worn mount would cause everything to move with torque and cause a clunk noise. Rubber mounts that dry rot and wear out after 14 years would be far more likely to bet of concern.
