What is your question?
My 2003 Ford Ranger starts well, idles well and sometimes drives well. But quite a bit of the time any more it acts like it has no power. it misses out. I replaced the fuel filter, had the exhaust checked to make sure the catalytic converter is ok and had it hooked up to a diagnostics machine but have had no luck diagnosing it. The mechanic has it right now and is replacing emissions items but is stumped as to why it is acting the way it is.

Some if these vehicles have had faulty airflow (MAF) sensors. If it's missing, there may be something else wrong. If it misses, I'd think that the check engine light would be on. The check engine light indicates that the computer has detected a malfunction in the engine/emission control system and has diagnostic codes and data stored which would be essential in diagnosing the problem. Has the mechanic checked for diagnostic codes or looked at data on a scanner? If so, what are the codes? You don't mention anything about diagnostics. If the mechanic is replacing parts one by one to try to get lucky, I don't think he'll fix the vehicle but you'll have lots of new emissions parts. Bad idea, diagnose it, find out what'[s actually wrong and fix it right. End of lecture... You need a Ford or Mazda specialist to diagnose the car for you.
