Why does the slave cylinder get hot when in gear

After driving the vehicle for about 15 minutes when it's in gear this the slave cylinders getting hot to clutches starts getting mushy and then it gets real super hot and will not engage in the gear what's the cause of it I take an alligator and it cools off
