What is your question?
My truck is burning oil. No drips, no smoke. I had my starter replaced and it seems it shorted due to oil in/on it. I am not savvy to this but need input before going to a mechanic. I fear getting taken advantage of. I cannot trade it in as I don't have money for a car payment. Are additives safe and is there a particular additive that would be advised?
What makes this problem better or worse?
It is bad if I drive it any distance.
How long has your 1997 Ford Ranger had this problem?
Not sure how long but was discovered when new starter installed a week ago.

Hello, additives offer little - if any.- help in general. And in some cases, they make situations worse. You can't "put a bandaid on an aneurysm" -- meaning, if there's a problem, there is no masking it or simplifying repairs. Oil getting into your starter motor has nothing to do with "burning oil". If you are saying that it shorted from oil in or on it, then there must be a leak. Which means your statement of "no drips" is inaccurate. Hands on testing is needed. Have it evaluated by someone who is skilled and qualified. Use this link to find some shops near you that can help with your concern: www.repairpal.com/repair-shops
