replaced speed sensor still no activity on speedometer

95 ranger sat for long time. we tried starting it and the mileage indicator went blank like something shorted. so now speedometer won't work even though we replaced speed sensor.
What makes this problem better or worse?
no change after replacing speed sensor. checked fuses are good.

took to mechanic last week. can't figure it out. i don't think it's mechanical. everything worked fine when put truck in storage.
Testing is needed. If you have no signal still from the speed sensor, then the wiring connector or wiring could be at fault. The speedometer head could have a concern. Or the driven gear that drives the sensor could be at fault. Testing will help resolve this.
However, based on the fact that your odometer has an issue, it could indeed be isolated in the speedometer head or the cluster circuit. The speed sensor does not influence odometer operation.
