My Ranger has an oil leak I cannot seem to trace. How can I determine if it is the head gasket or valve covers leaking?
It should be easy to distinguish between the head gasket or head gasket being the source of an oil leak. Oil leaks downward not upward. Clean the engine, run the engine and check for leaks. Probably the valve cover gasket (common). If the leak can't easily been found a dye can be put in the oil to pin point the source of the leak.
