Hello, the A4LD automatic transmission in your Ranger is NOT electronically operated by solenoids! This is one of the last hydraulic and vacuum operated transmissions Ford produced. The only thing that is electronically controlled is the engagement of the torque converter as well as the overdrive gear. If you have no forward gears at all, first check the fluid level to ensure it is clean and full. Ensure the shifter linkage is adjusted properly. Next, you can check to ensure the filter in the pan is not plugged. Beyond that, you have internal hydraulic issues that will need to be diagnosed and repaired.
