how to check cooling fan

What is your question?

I removed plug from cooling fan and placed meter on it and got a reading, so I believe I am getting power to motor. so I than touched two wires from battery to prongs on fan motor and got nothing. can I safely say that fan is no good

I believe that is the proper test. I almost blew my engine on my 99 six by a bad cooling fan, causing the upper rad hose to burst - I didn't realize that the temp gauge is not going to show accurate engine temp if not enough coolant in the system - I tried to limp home with a hose bandage -
