What is your question?
Many people mentioned this as a common 98 Mustang convertible issue, is it a big problem? Important to fix ASAP? Expensive? RE: Brake Pads, if they're at 3 mm now, is it true they will be OK for another 10K miles?

Hello, I’m Pete from the Car Genius team at RepairPal. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this concern on your 1998 Ford Mustang. Tie rod failure can be a common failure point on this model as well as other models. The biggest complaint I have seen myself with the tie rod failure on this model is a squeaking or chirping noise coming from the outer tie rod ends. This failure can be caused by water intrusion in the tie rod ends or poor lubrication from the factory when they were manufactured. If you suspect that there is a concern with one or more tie rod's I recommend having those inspected further as soon as possible to see if they need to be replaced. If they do need to be replaced an alignment will need to be performed after they are replaced to allow your vehicle to track properly down the road as well as prevent uneven or rapid tire wear and correct steering operation. As for the brake pads being at 3mm, depending on driving habits and conditions you might be able to get another 10k miles out of them. For safety reasons it is a good idea to have the brake pads replaced as soon as you can to prevent damage to the brake rotors, brake calipers and for safety to maintain the vehicle being able to brake and stop safely.
