What is your question?
I will be driving and when I go to shift into a different gear it will shift into neutral but gets stuck there. When I drop my car and turn it off I can shift properly but as soon as I restart the car the clutch is very hard to ouch and the gear shift will not go into any gear spot.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Its worse when I drive a long distance.
How long has your 1996 Ford Mustang had this problem?
A week, then had the adjustment cable replaced and 3 days after that it started again

It's possible the clutch is not releasing. I'd say an adjustment is needed buy you mentioned that's been done. If the clutch has a ton of miles I'd suspect that or possible the pressure plate. Hands-on inspection is needed. Use this link to find a good shop near you. https://repairpal.com/repair-shops Alex
It could be a the slave cylinder but if you don't normally work on your own car I'd swing it by a shop for an inspection. No sense in guessing at the end of the day. Alex
The man that put my adjustment cable on last Thursday said that it was possible there is a locking mechanism that may be locking up randomly as I'm driving, making it to where I cannot shift at all. But he also said that requires taking the transmission out. And someone else mentioned it may be a clutch slave cylinder.
