What is your question?
When I roll the window up, it hits the top and rolls back down. It has happened several times over the years and holding the button down then rolling it up and holding the button has fixed it. Now no matter how careful I am trying to roll the window up, when it hits the top it goes back down. I’ve seen videos on line going back to at least 2013 Fusions so this has been a known problem for YEARS! With all the technological advancements Ford has been putting in their cars, how have they not fixed this?
What makes this problem better or worse?
Happens more often in the summer.
How long has your 2017 Ford Fusion had this problem?
Intermittently for years

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. Hello, it sounds like the window needs to be "reinitialized". There is a procedure for this, so that the system knows the proper travel of the window before detecting something in the way that reverses direction. Seek guidance at a local shop near you. This is fixable with little difficulty. https://repairpal.com/auto-repair-near-me Click the link or call us at 877-913-1554. We'll gladly find you a certified RepairPal shop in your area.
Hi there 👋 Sorry you’ve been dealing with this — it’s definitely a frustrating issue, and you’re not alone with this on Ford Fusions. From what you’re describing, this usually isn’t a windshield or ADAS problem. It’s most commonly related to the power window system, specifically the auto-up safety feature. When the window reaches the top, the system thinks it’s hitting an obstruction and automatically sends it back down. This can happen due to: A failing window regulator or motor Increased resistance from worn window tracks or seals (more noticeable in hot summer weather) The window losing its “memory” of the full up/down position over time Sometimes a relearn/reset procedure can temporarily help, but if it keeps coming back, it usually means there’s mechanical wear or drag in the window system that needs attention. Ignoring it can eventually lead to the window getting stuck down completely. If you’re in Texas (Pearland or nearby) and want it properly diagnosed or repaired — whether that means window regulator repair or full side window replacement — feel free to contact Pearland Area Wide Auto Glass. We’ve been working with auto glass and power windows since 1991, and we can help get your window operating smoothly and safely again. 📞 281-763-2190 🌐 https://areawideautoglass.com Hope this helps, and good luck getting it fixed! 🚗🔧
