What is your question?
Why wouldn't car drive with over heating light on? Is engine ruined? Was going to just drive very short distance.

Hello, What does the gauge say? Does the gauge show the engine is hot after sitting overnight? If so, you likely have a bad engine coolant temperature sensor, if not, let me know.
Yes, gauge goes directly to hot. Says engine coolant overheating. I researched the sensor. How can I check it? It's been days since it's been driven. I'm worried about the engine. Please let me know what you think. THANKS!
OK, I suspect you have a failed engine coolant temperature sensor, and I am not concerned for your engine at all. This is an electrical problem. Testing includes using a multi-meter (very cheap), and measuring the voltage in and out of the sensor. If the signal from the sensor is higher than normal, but the signal from the engine control module is normal, replace the sensor. You should see a definitive difference in the voltage output from the sensor as the engine heats up (continuously changing until engine is at normal operating temperature.
Thanks, checking it out. I'll let you know. You have been a huge help.
That's what us Texans do. Any time you respond to this link you will get me, just FYI.
Hello friend. Have the new part. Problem is, can't get the old part out. It's turning, but not backing out. Any thoughts?
Great, Put down the wrench, pick up a flat screwdriver, pick, or small needle-nose pliers, and look on the housing for the sensor. Pull the clip off of the housing, and the sensor slides out. Make sure to lube the O-ring with clean coolant or oil before inserting. Has to be clean, or it will not seal. Has to be lubed or it will damage that O-ring.
The old and new parts don't look the same. Bout to lose my religion. To be continued. Appreciate the help my friend.
