My temp gauge is at bottom 1/4 position, or slightly higher, is this a problem?

If the sensor (or the source of the temperature data, it is common relay this information between multiple electronic control modules) is incorrect you would have no indication if your engine were to overheat. Which could lead to costly engine repairs, or in some cases the need to replace the engine.
