What is your question?
Bought a Ford focus 2013 for my son 3 weeks ago. After a week the light kept coming on and then going off again. The last time the engine light came on, the car overheated. My son says it looked like the water bottle was leaking when it overheated as water was coming from it. He took the car to ford who after 2 days said that they had done pressure tests and could not find any errors or leaks. 2 days later the same thing occurred. He took the car back to Ford, where after a day they told my son that there was a misfire at 3. They removed the head and confirmed engine damage. The engine now needs to be replaced. I should have mentioned that I am female, so apologies if I do not use the correct words. My question is this- if we now replace the engine, how do we know that whatever it was that caused the problem is now also repaired/solved? I basically want to know what could have caused for the engine to now be replaced so that we can make sure they check it, so this does not happen again.
How long has your 2013 Ford Focus had this problem?

This sounds really challenging and I'm sorry it's happened to you. How many miles are on this vehicle? Your Focus should have a 5 year / 60,000 mile warranty from the factory on the powertrain, including the engine. It sounds to me like some kind of unknown concern was present even before you bought the vehicle. This is highly unfortunately, and I'm of course unsure as to where you bought the vehicle from and if there is any warranty. It sounds like the concern likely originated from internal engine concerns from overheating, but of course this is difficult to tell especially not being aware of vehicle history. The only thing you can really do is ensure good parts are used to repair the vehicle, and that your cooling fans work as designed to cool the coolant when driving the vehicle.
