car won't lock in to any gear

What is your question?

This just happened last week as I was trying to park my car. It slid thru all gears to park but did not lock and was rolling backwards till I stepped on the brake, It is now parked with rocks behind the front 2 wheels What could be the problem as it only has 16500 miles and I am 83 don't drive but once a week to keep the engine going
