What is your question?
Had clicking sound near belts when car starts when driven at low speed --but not always maybe 2 days. On way to AAA mechanic it stalled THEN the engine light went on. They said it has low compression-valves, piston etc..need new engine. They started it briefly but then loud noise and engine stopped. Sound right?-New engine? Or should I get 2nd opinion. Have been using this shop for a while. No leaks. No low fluids. No discolored fluids. No smoke. Has been regularly serviced.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Nothing it is not every time car starts-clicking sound
How long has your 2001 Ford Focus had this problem?

A second opinion is usually a great idea. It's hard to know based off of your concern description. If you have loud internal engine noise, that's probably cause enough to expect you may need a replacement engine.
