What is your question?
So I know it's an old car (about 140000 on the odometer) but my check engine light started to come on but go off. Then later on down the line it stays on. All of a sudden one day I was driving and all at once my car jumps like the transmission jumping,my gauges jump, my radio quit and my battery light and the light above it with the ! in it comes on. It lasts for all of five or ten seconds and then goes back to normal. It's been happening more often like at least 3-4 in my 30 minute drive home and it happens more when the ac or radio is on anything that draws power I guess. So I went down to the AutoZone and did the test p1244 p1000 & p0401. I happen to take a gander under the hood and noticed my positive battery cables (there are 3 there) are melted close to the terminal. Sometimes if my car doesn't want to start right off hand I go wiggle the cables and it'll start up. My husband says it's a POS (Chevy man) and to junk it. But I love my focus what can I try before taking it down to the shop?

I have a 2003 ZTS with 2.0 DOHC Zetec I-4 automatic. Just last week I had similar issues and the "!" light on the left side of the IP came on. Re-started and drove to Auto Zone to pull codes while the vehicle was running. Got 2 "B" codes for over and under voltage. There are 3 conditions that come to mind. Condition/Solution: 1) Check for loose (+) cable terminal. 2) Check for corrosion on the (+) cable terminal being sure to check on the underneath of the terminal and battery post. 3) Check your (+) battery cable for melted insulation and frayed wires where it connects to the cable terminal. If melted insulation is present, consider the replacing with Ford part no. 2M5Z-14300-BA ($92.00+ at dealer without influence) or Motorcraft #WC-95755 (eBay/Amazon $54.00+). Today, I am trying to figure out how to remove the bolts on the starter motor so I can replace the cable set. Not fun or easy DIY. Dealer price including the cable (if they can find one in a Ford warehouse) and 1.2 hours labor will be north of $230.
