Dash speedometer light is intermittent

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. The first thing I think of when you share that the light is varying is - what are your headlights doing while this happens? If your headlights turn on during automatic lamp function, the photosensor may be seeing low ambient light and turn the lights on when it might not be dark enough -- or might be super sensitive to the light. This would cause your speedometer lights to dim accordingly. And then if the headlights shut off, the speedometer lights would brighten again. Other than that - yes, it would seem that an internal lighting issue in the speedometer and instrumentation would need to come out and be sent for repairs. It may not be 3 weeks, but it will not be terribly quick. There are only a limited amount of facilities that work on instrument clusters and audio units.
