Software enhancements are available to remedy inconsistency and confusion about the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) cleaning cycle - "Regeneration" mode. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) will need to be reprogrammed to add several enhancements, including a more reasonable driving experience during the cleaning cycle and instrument cluster notifications of the cleaning status. Which version should I ask for at the dealer. They will all think they have the latest version.

Those updates are issued to ALL dealers from Ford Motor Co.. They ALL WILL have the latest!!.. It's not like something the dealers have to go somewhere and pick up!.. Call dealer with VIN to see if update (for 'that' vehicle) has been issued recently...
As of December 2014 Ford had no software or fix for this common problem. My local service manager acted like they never heard of such a thing. So I bought a DPF Delete Kit on-line from Rudy's. My 2009 F350 now gets at least 24% better fuel economy and has noticeably more hp. No more white smoke, exhaust regeneration mode, or half-power. The Ford company left me stranded on this, I had to resolve it myself on a work truck I bought new from the showroom, and serviced faithfully.
I am sure that will be the responce from my local dealer, especially now as I just ordered a 2015 F350 DRW Sierra with the Duramax and Allison combo. No more Beta testing from Ford!
Sierra 3500.
Right, will take some getting used to! Will enjoy that challenge!
Smart move!!
Thats great news. Thanks so much.
