Truck shuts down on front fuel tank!!

What is your question?

I was told my front fuel pump is going out so I only use the back tank. The truck shuts off if I use the front. Besides the fuel pump, could there be a different problem, if so how can I diagnose it? Also all the fuel I put in the rear flows to the front which I can't use, so I constantly have to syphen, not to mention the cost of lots of gasoline!
