What is your question?
I have recently purchased a 2018 F-150 Lariat which has a camera in the tailgate. My truck has the 360 camera set up, park assist, trailer backing control etc. I'm having a shell built which will require me to remove the tailgate. The shell manufacturer says they can add a brake light camera on top of the shell to replace the tailgate camera. My problem is I've received conflicting and information from dealers, parts distributors and shell manufacturers as to how that will effect all the systems that rely on the tailgate camera. It seems to me that by raising the cameral several feet it will change the perspective and scale with relation to the other cameras. Looking at youtube I can see some evidence that the backing lines are partially generated at the camera itself. So my question is, if I move and or replace the camera placing it higher on the truck will the systems compensate. if not do I have any options or am I just out of luck? Thanks, Robbie

This is a great question, and I honestly do not know the answer. Many folks would want to modify the vehicle as you have, and I would imagine the folks doing the work would be considered the "experts" since they are doing the modifications. It can't hurt to consult the dealership, but they usually don't look "outside the box" from original manufacturing too often. So, I would check with the shell installers and gain comfort with whatever you learn, and even maybe get a second opinion from another installer.
Thanks for your thoughts. Sadly I have contacted two shell manufacturers, (even visited the plant for one company) several dealerships including two repair shops and a hand full of ford parts departments. Unfortunately I kinda get a blank stare when I ask the question. I've heard both positive and negative responses but it was clear that they were just guessing and could really give me a definitive answer.
