What is your question?
I have a 2011 Ford F150, 3.7V6, 2WD. The starter continuously runs when I try to start, even after releasing the key. I have to turn ignition off to get it to stop. I checked fuse 27 in power distribution box it is not melted or burnt. I also checked starter relay by swapping with defroster relay, no change.
What makes this problem better or worse?
This started happening overnight, truck ran fine yesterday.
How long has your 2011 Ford F-150 had this problem?
Started today

Hi - Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. This could be related to the concern with the starter motor or the ignition key cylinder and switch in the steering column. Hands on testing is needed to know what is happening. https://repairpal.com/auto-repair-near-me Click the link to find some shops near you who can help out!
Hi, I'm Bogi, one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Thanks for including all those details, it's clear you've already done some solid troubleshooting! On your 2011 Ford F150 with the 3.7L V6, a starter that continues to run after releasing the key is telling us that the starter circuit is staying energized when it shouldn't be. Since you've already ruled out the fuse and swapped the starter relay without any change, there are only a few other options. One strong possibility is a faulty ignition switch, which on this generation F150 is a known issue. The ignition switch can wear out and fail to properly cut the signal to the starter circuit when the key is released back to the run position. A stuck or faulty starter solenoid is another possibility, as the solenoid can sometimes stick in the engaged position and keep the starter running independently of the relay. It's also worth looking at the wiring between the ignition switch and the starter relay circuit, as a short or damaged wire could be keeping the circuit powered longer than it should be. Electrical diagnosis on starting circuits really benefits from having the right wiring diagrams and diagnostic tools so I’d recommend having a qualified shop check it out.
