What is your question?
I am in need to replace my timing chain on my truck. 5.4 triton 3v. I know about the guides, tensioners, chain, cam phasers, sprockets, timing cover gasket seal, crankshaft seal etc but I feel like there needs to be more. Do you absolutely have to change out the solenoids? Water pump? Oil pump? I need to know absolutely everything down to the seals that has to be replaced for best productivity and what is not needed.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Once it starts to warm up
How long has your 2006 Ford F-150 had this problem?
Over a year, but truck has been parked and not driven

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. My first point is important: this engine has 2 timing chains - one left and one right. This is not a single chain engine, and since you asked about a timing chain, I'm quite concerned that you may not know what you're getting into here. What makes you believe the chains should be replaced? Keep in mind this is a very complex and complicated system, and if you're asking what should be replaced -- I'd recommend not doing anything with it at all and having a professional engage in the repairs. It requires special tools and following the workshop manual perfectly to ensure no damage is done to the engine. I must also ask - why are you replacing the chains? Lastly, no, I do not see a need to proactively replace a water pump or oil pump or any part not suspected to be failed. Yes, the guides and tensioners. The phasers can be replaced as needed without changing the chains - and perhaps that's a place to be looking for your concerns in the first place? I just can't help but urge you to seek help from a local shop near you who can give you better first hand advice based on your specific concerns. https://repairpal.com/auto-repair-near-me Click the link or call us at 877-913-1554.
