If the engine revs up between shifts, you possibly have a clutch that is slipping excessively during the transitions from gear to gear. Does the clutch pedal have any free travel in it when it is all the way up. Free travel is the amount of free movement of the pedal from rest position at the top to when you feel resistance on the pedal. You can check this simply by putting your hand on the pedal and lightly pushing it. There should be slight free movement. Several things can cause this but that is something to check. You also will have a small reservoir that contains clutch fluid. Check it also. Poor transitions when shifting using the clutch and accelerator can also cause this.
