Do many people have to have a camshaft timing chain solenoid changed on these trucks?

Our truck would stutter and shake as we came to a stop. After doing this only when getting ready to stop several times, the engine light came on. We were pulling our RV, a light weight. It didn't do the shaking when we were not pulling the RV, however the engine light stayed on. So, we immediately got help. The Ford garage said that it needed new camshaft timing chain solenoids. We pull the RV in drive and don't use the cruise control like the book says. We wondered if others have had a similar problem and what would cause something like this.
