What is your question?
My check engine sensor turned on and I went to AutoZone to have it checked out. The code came back as a faulty coolant sensor on my 2004 F150. I took it to a local repair shop and told them the problem and they performed a diagnostic test and said the same thing, but they quoted me at close to $500. They said they would have to take out some large part in my engine in order to have access to the coolant sensor and that that was why it would cost so much. I could not afford that price at the time so I left, and I have still yet to fix the problem. I wanted to check and see because $500 is a lot of money, and here I am being quoted at about $150. Please help.

alot depends on which sensor they are quoting you, there is a cylinder head temp sensor which is burried underneath the intake manifold, and located in the passenger side head, and that would be the reason for the 500 quote. i have had to replace a few of thos, but have also found the short harness leading to it chaffed/rubbed and causing the code, either way you must pull the intake manifold to get at it.
what motor do you have?? Roy
It's a V8....that's all I know.
i just looked on alldata and it pays .3 hours or about 30 minutes to replace the coolant sensor. i think we need a more defined description of the part you need. now, the cylinder head temp sensor is the one that requires removal of the intake. it pays 5.2 hours to replace. i guess you need a clarification of the part required. See the more you all describe this cylinder head temp the more it sounds like what they were referring to. The mechanic told me it would take close to 5 hours to replace. I will definitely check and make sure they are telling me that its the 'cylinder head temp sensor' and not some other sensor. Any other sensor would not be that expensive or take as long correct? or am I over simplifying things....
you are correct, the coolant temp sensor itself is fairly simple and low cost to replace, while the cylinder head temp sensor is not so much fun
Awesome....thanks for the help!!
So they will have to pull the intake no matter what and so $500 is a reaosnable price? Thank you!
If cylinder heat temp sensor is the code, then yes. unfortunately it's not in a very accessible location.
When you said the part about removing the intake I remembered that that was what he had said, so I am pretty sure we are talking about the same sensor. But I will double check...well shucks. Thank you though!
