I have an 1999 ford f150 pickup with 19000 mi. Should I change the trani. fluid

All the transmission people I talk to say if the transmission hasn't been serviced regularly then leave it alone and you can tell by looking at the fluid color if its red then its been serviced before But if its blackish brown then leave it alone as changing it will sometimes cause the transmission to fail
