I think I need to replace my fuel pump...I have never attempted this kind of repair and have very limited skills in auto mechanics...should I try this on my own. If not how much should I expect to pay a mechanic for parts and labor?

are you replacing one or both fuel pumps. parts and labor in my area run between $300.00 and $600.00 for one and $600.00 to $1200.00 for both depending on if it is done at the dealer or Independent shop. This is not a difficult jod and can be done with basic tools. however if the tanks are full you will need something to hold the weight to remove or container big enough to pump fuel into.
about 150.00 labor i dont no about fuel pump if you have some help take bed off truck it lot easer if take tank down u will have take drive shaft and have a problem get hoses off and back on
In my opinion, "very limited skills" probably shouldn't attempt to deal with fuel tank straps and fuel tank bolts and pumping out fuel without a proper fuel tank pumper...etc...etc... True - anyone can do anything if they put their mind to it. And i'm sure you are well capable to accomplish the task. But many things could go wrong and there could be complications... Good luck either way!
