set the timming

You need a timing light and a little bit of knowledge. The timing pointer should be visible from the driver side of vehicle looking at the front pulley on the motor. With the motor off you want to clean the pulley off so that the numbers can be read or on some the pointer needs to be cleaned off. The pointer may have the numbers on it. Hook up the timing light to cylinder 1 spark plug lead and the power wires to the battery. Near the distributor should be a two wire connector that end at a gray colored piece of plastic, both wires should be pink, unplug the gray plastic piece from the connector separating it from the two pink wires. Then start he motor and set eh time to specs., ( the specs should be on the emissions label somewhere under the hood). Once the timing is set turn the motor off and reinsert the gray plastic piece back into the connector. Then recheck timing, if everything is working properly, when the timing is rechecked it should be more advanced than when you set the timing. I believe the timing instructions should be on the emissions sticker.Good luck
