I replaced the resistor and the blower motor did not resolve the problem. Hi this is Dusty, I'm one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team! It sounds like you're really stuck in a situation with your Explorer! When it comes to issues like this where multiple components seem to be affected, it can sometimes be a bit of a head-scratcher. Since you've already tackled the resistor and blower motor without success, it might indeed be worth looking into the relay or even the control module that manages these functions. Sometimes, electrical gremlins can cause havoc in unexpected places. It could be any number of causes, from something as simple as a failing relay, to a deeper issue in the wiring. It's definitely worth checking any fuses and relays related to the HVAC system, and if you're comfortable with a bit of DIY troubleshooting, a multimeter is your best friend when it comes to electrical issues like this. You may even find the wiring schematics for your vehicle online, or you can check with your local public library, sometimes they can request workshop manuals like you'd need in for you to borrow. There's plenty of videos on YouTube to give you a crash course on how to use it effectively, and if you're not sure about the results, double, triple check. And if all else fails, a trip to a professional might be in order to have a diagnosis.
