What is your question?
I had a bad tension pulley and belt repaired at a shop. When I picked up my vehicle it's now making a clicking noise coming from the ac compressor area, sounds like hissing noise from the vents and does not blow cold air now. It did not make this noise before the pulley repair. The air worked great in front and back. The shop stated that the ac compressor was already broken and since the correct tension is on the belt it's just showing the true colors of the ac compressor. Does this make sense? It is possible for an AC to work properly without correct tension but now the tension is correct my ac compressor is broken?
What makes this problem better or worse?
The clicking noise is the same weather the AC is on or off
How long has your 2014 Ford Explorer had this problem?
1 day

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. It is very difficult to know what came first -- what happened -- but it is not possible for a tensioner and belt being replaced to cause failure of the air conditioning compressor. I cannot see any compelling connection. True that if there is now proper tension on the pulleys that the compressor could expose weakness. It's good to have a second opinion at a shop near you -- to get an assessment of the vehicle, components and work performed.
