Check charging system

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. The warning light could mean an actual problem is occurring with your charging system and the engine oil pressure. However, it is far more likely that the engine speed is too low, idling low, sluggish and shutting off as you suggested, which is causing the oil pressure to be lower and the charging system to not have enough power. The best thing to do is to have a shop near you check into engine performance concerns with your vehicle. I feel pretty certain that when this is corrected, the oil pressure will be just fine as well as the charging system...as the engine speed will be sufficient to support both functions.
