My wife's 2004 Ford Explorer is overheating. After her truck has been running for 10-15 minutes, You can see steam that smells like anti-freeze coming from the black plastic intake manifold area at the top of the engine. Does that entire black piece have to be replaced and how much Ä‘oes it cost? What seems to make the problem better or worse? Turn the truck off and allowing the engine to cool down...the problem gets better How long have you had this problem? Two days

You did not indicate which engine, but i'm guessing 4.6L V8. I cannot say for sure without seeing the vehicle, but the composite intake manifold could indeed have a fracture causing a coolant leak. If so, then yes -- the entire "black piece" must be replaced, and it is not inexpensive to do so. For pricing in your area, please consult a few local shops. You may also want to have the concern inspected first -- what if the failure is just a hose? They should be replaced at about the 7 year mark, and could be weak or brittle. It is always best to have the vehicle checked definitively first.
