It seems to idle to low, like at 550rpms.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Does fine when you give it a little more gas.
How long has your 1999 Ford Explorer had this problem?

Hello, highly doubtful you have fuel injector concerns, although testing would confirm that. Also, low power output from the alternator can cause running issues, but not typically affecting idle quality. If the engine speed is too low, the alternator output will also be too low. Alternator output should be checked for voltage and amperage output at 2,000 RPM of engine speed. A full engine performance inspection should be conducted, including performing compression tests, checking ignition timing, checking fuel delivery, ignition spark and air intake, as well as emissions controls for proper operatoin.
