What is your question?
The round dimmer switch that controls the dash lights and left turn signal went into the dashboard. How do I get the little roller piece out of the dash and get the lights working again?
How long has your 1998 Ford Explorer had this problem?
a couple of days

Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. So sorry to hear you're having trouble with your Explorer. It sounds like your dimmer switch has fallen into the dash, which can happen if the switch housing becomes loose or damaged. You'll need to remove the dashboard trim panel around the instrument cluster to access and fix it. Once you have the trim off, you should be able to see the dimmer switch and retrieve the roller piece. After that, you can reattach or replace the switch. Be careful when removing the trim, as it's often held by screws or clips that you don't want to break.
