What is your question?
When starting and driving the O/D off light flashes, the engine light is on and it goes forward in all gears but Park. Transmission does not change up when driving. I noticed it is low on fluid. That's the first thing I am going to try. Where do I go from there??? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

The O/D light indicates there are codes in the processor that help pin point transmission issues. Sure, add the fluid first, but it is likely you have an internal issue with a shift solenoid or mechanical hydraulic components. The codes will help point some direction.
Thank you for your response. I just can't find anybody to read the codes on my 95. Does it sound like an overhaul or could it be fixed easier? Something else happened to the truck yesterday. I would like to see if you can help with it. The truck started running real rough and would run a few minutes then cut off. The engine sounded like it had jumped time with the backfiring and the motor was acting like it had a real bad vacuum leak trying to jump out of the truck. It was making all kinds of noises. I had the friendly locals show up and they said everything from timing chain to gas leak to coil pack. I got a very expensive repair estimate on each problem. What has me bothered is we went back later that day and it started up and ran like a new one.I know now something got hot. But what? I might mention we had run out of gas earlier because the gas hand doesn't work properly but it ran fine after getting gas and 25 miles later. At first it sounded like maybe a clogged fuel line at least until the backfiring. I would love your expert advice on this one. Thank you
The O/D light flashes when either an actively occuring or memory code exists with the transmission. You may have to see a dealership to get the codes read. I do not know which transmission you have because I do not know what engine you have, but I'm assuming you have a 4.0L V6 and a 4R55E transmission. With this one, I have experienced engine processor (PCM) problems (controls the transmission too), wiring harness issues, shift solenoid issues and other electrical issues. You said it goes forward in all gears -- as in, no reverse? If this is the case, look for issues with the transmission range sensor. If this is OK could be an internal hydraulic issue. The O/D light can also flash just for slippage detected whild driving - which sets a code. Keep in mind that even if the concern that initially set the light on was an electrical issue, continued operation can cause mechanical and hydraulic issues to occur, such as damages to clutches and bands. In the end, a concern that starts electrical can end up with an overhaul/replacement situation. Truly a hands on professional diagnosis by a trusted facility is in order. The running issue... I really need to know which engine: 4.0L SOHC V6, 4.0L OHV V6 or 5.0L V8? And how many miles are we talking about? Thank you.
It is the 4.0L V6 and the 4R55E transmission. The mileage is 176,000. By forward in all gears, I mean forward in reverse and neutral and all forward drive gears. The only one that works right is park. Last night when we drove the truck all the way home, it would run fine until the O/D off light would start flashing then it will bog down and and not want to take gas and the motor would shudder. It would have the small explosions like it's out of time. He kept patting the accelerator and it would pick back up and go. It only cut off once and started right back up and ran smooth. We were almost home by then. In order to get it home it was only about a 6 mile drive. I just bought this truck and on the initial test drive it ran fantastic. I got ripped off so bad and I'm just trying to deal with it. It's getting to be crusher time. Please save me from the crusher. Thank you
Forward in neutral and reverse...is this at all times or just when the O/D light starts flashing and the bogging down, shuddering occurs? Does the bogging down and shuddering occur after getting to speed (like...30-35 mph, plus, then slowing down? I definitely suggest you get someone to pull the codes somehow (many transmission or independent shops will do this for no charge...) so that you can get even a little direction. Certain codes represent more likely catastrophic failures; others lean towards hypothetically repairable electrical concerns.
It's forward gears at all times. The bogging down and shuddering occurs while driving at minimal speeds or higher speeds. It starts and it doesn't want to take gas anymore but you can pat it and it will continue to shudder until it finally cuts itself off. Sometimes it will start right back up again and run smooth and at other times it will shudder and shake and cut off. It takes a couple hours to get it to restart and drive smooth again when it has a "don't want to restart episode". After that restart it can run for a few miles or cut right back off in a few minutes. 4-5 minutes. How about a clogged catalytic converter?. What are the signs of that? Or the coil pack? I've got a ride waiting to the crusher for $25.
If you have forward at all times, in all selections, it concerns me there is likely a significant failure in the transmission internally. I feel like your power and shuddering is likely due to internal transmission issues as well. Again, codes can help lead the way, but even an initial electrical concern that is causing significant issues mechanically will cause degradation of the internal components as you continue to drive it. You indeed could have additional issues - fuel control, fuel supply, exhaust restriction...but I would concentrate on things you have clues for first, such as the transmission O/D light flashing and check engine light. Sadly, we are far beyond the scope of specific suggestion here online with this concern - you really do need to seek out a trusted repair facility that can check those codes and give you some initial insight. Best of luck going forward.
Thank you so much for all your responses. I actually have 2 prospects coming today to buy the truck. I figured the transmission had something to do with the motor acting up because of the way it started shuddering when the o/d light came on. I hope this is finally over for me but I will pass on the information you have given me. Again thank you so much. You wouldn't know where I could find a Dodge Ram to buy would you ; ) I SOLD IT!!!!
had a 95' f250 with a 5.8l V8 and a 3 speed automatic tranny. the vehicle had 115,000 miles and would drive like a brand new truck most days. other days it would buck and jump like it had water in the gas, back fire, stall out, O/D light would flash right before everything went haywire. Just as described above it would sometimes start back up like nothing happened then run smooth like a newer truck or just not start for 25 minutes then buck and jump all the way home. The truck did this upon purchase for $1000 a month later it started to run fine and did so for a year. It then started with the severe symptoms consistently being erratic. Tried everything i could possibly think of that seemed logical with little to no success. in the end the culprit was a BAD COMPUTER caused by an improperly sealed windshield. with the new computer it ran great and all sickly symptoms were gone
