oil was put in rear, because of humming sound. still hear some humming sound

Humming noise while accelerating at cruising speed and noise stops when let off accelerator is indicative of rear gear wear... Pretty common on high mileage vehicles... Suggest having qualified/experenced mechanic test drive vehicle .. A mechanic that has been doing auto repair for a 'good while' would be more familiar with this sound.
