I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac that won"t start. It turns over fine.
What is your question?
Earlier this week it started after a number of tries and kind of shook when it started then settled down. I started it this afternoon pretty easily , but it wouldn't start this evening. Turns over' but no ignition. I'm thinking the fuel pump may be the issue. Your thoughts please.

I did not hear the pump run after loosening the gas cap and turning the key to on.
Another thing I noticed, was when I was able to start the car this afternoon, I was able to pull the key out of the ignition and the car kept running. I was able to turn the car off without the key and able to restart it without the key.
Good , I'm glad you got one part fixed(hopefully) , but from your description , the lock cylinder for the ignition is not functioning safely , did they check that,or even notice if not told?

I think you've narrowed down the problem area!
What does that mean ? What do you think the problem is ?
someting wong wit ignition switch!! Should not be like that!! Get a pro to evaluate (for safety reasons)!
Took it to the repair shop. ASfter much testing , it was determined that it was the fuel pump pressure causing the issue.

I did tell them and they checked it out, but not sure to what extent.
Be safe! .
