Some times hard to start, must give gas; but in the mornings and after work starts right up, but hard to start 3 minutes later. What is the problem, starter?
RepairPal Certified shops can diagnose and repair your 2003 Ford Expedition. They provide transparent pricing with a minimum 12-month or 12,000-mile warranty on repairs and services.
I changed an old air filter and added fuel injector cleaner. Discovered the problem continued; I think it is the starter. Will have it looked at after Easter.
The starter will only be a concern for you if it is drawing too much power to turn it, causing the engine to rotate slower than needed to fire over.
If the engine cranks fast enough, the starter cannot be the cause.
If it's slow, then, yes, check your battery, your cables, your starter amperage draw.
I spoke with my technician today and he will check everthing out i.e., battery, cables, starter, and amperage Monday after Easter. Pehaps it is not getting enough fuel to the engine?
My technician says it is not the battery, starter, or electrical problems. He suggested it is mechanical, perhaps a sensor to indicate the proper mixture of fuel and air. Only the dealer can effectively tell what the problem is. The Ford dealership is my next stop!
Yes indeed; as I suspected.
I'm a dealership guy, so I'm all about having confidence in the dealer. However, a solid technician at a repair shop is what you need. You may save some money. This is not a complex problem; just one that requires an experienced tech and a good diagnostic tool. Again, best of luck.
After all the testing and a few dollars, the problem came down to a weak battery: the last thing I checked out. I must admit changing the air filter, changing fuel to midgrade, and adding fuel injector cleaner all has helped much. PS: a new battery was perfect!

More likely fuel than a starter based on your description. Let us know how things turn out.
