The oil leaks are coming from the rear. I have a difficult time getting the gear out of park and into Drive Does that mean it's the transmission?

Your oil leak issue and transmission manual lever shift issue are unrelated. The oil leak from the rear -- rear of what component? Engine? Transmission? Rear differential? Help me understand the fluid that is leaking and from where so I can give you some insight. The shifter binding -- does it just stay entirely locked until you wiggle it and try the brake pedal repeatedly? Or is it just terribly stiff? If it remains locked, take a look at the brake light switch first. It could be intermittently failing or out of adjustment. The wiring at the switch could be suspect too. If it's binding, the shift linkage itself may be at fault and requires inspection. Good luck!
